MSDOS.SYS FILE CONTENTS FOR WINDOWS 95 & 98

There are two options

i) [Paths] - describes locations for other Windows Files (like Registry)

ii) [Options]- To personalize the Boot Process.

[Paths] some useful contents description

. HostWinBootDrv=Root of the Drive eg: C

. UninstallDir=Root of Boot Drive eg: C:\

. WinBootDir=Windows Folder which is given at the time of installation of os

. WinDir=Windows Folder

[Options] contents description

This is useful to personalize the boot process and to manually set the values or insert contents. The Default value is given in Brackets.

. AutoScan=Number (1) Prompts for the Scandisk when improper shutdown detected,

0-Simply discards Scandisk even when improper shutdown detected,

2-Doesn't prompt for scandisk but prompts for fixing the errors.

. BootDelay=Seconds (2)

. BootSafe=Boolean (0) 1- Forces your computer to boot in Safemode.

. BootGUI=Boolean (1) 0- Disables the loading of GUI.

. BootKeys=Boolean (1) 0-Disables the use of Function keys such as F8 etc.,

When BootKeys=0 is set you can insert the following lines.

. BootMenuDefault=Number (1) 3- if the system hang previously started.

. BootMenuDelay=Number (30) To Select the Boot Option this time is 30 seconds default.

. BootMenu=Boolean (0) 1- Enables Startup Menu at starting OS.

If BootMenu=1 the use the options given below

. BootMulti=Boolean(1) 0- Disables the Multi Boot Option i.e when the value is 1 it enables the F4 and F8 function keys to boot your previous version of OS such as previous version of MSDOS.

. BootWarn=Boolean (1) 0-Disables the Safemode Boot Warn at Startup.

. BootWin=Boolean (1) 0-Disables Windows 95 as your Default OS When you have previous version of MSDOS.

. DoubleBuffer=Boolean (0) 1-is a Conditional setting that enables double buffering for controller when need it. 2-Unconditional setting forces to double buffering for controller even when no need.

. DBLSPACE=Boolean (1) 0-Prevents the automatic loading of DBLSPACE.BIN.

. DRVSPACE=Boolean (1) 0-Prevents the automatic loading of DRVSPACE.BIN.

. Logo=Boolean (1) 0- Prevents the animated logo.

. NetWork=Boolean (0) 1-means network installed ad add safemode network support for startup menu.

Actually after this contents are not useful. But the reasons behind is the file size must more than 1024 bytes because some softwares treats it as virus when that is less than 1024 bytes. ";" Started lines are not read by Windows.
